Knitting

There exists an almost limitless number of materials that people who knit employ, these consist of fibers from animals, synthetic materials, and plants.

The wonderful art of knitting begins with the procedure of casting on (also known as "binding on"), which concerns the first production of the stitches on the needle. different means of cast on are used for various effects. As an example, one type may be stretchy enough to be used for lace, while another kind could provide an embellished edging. Provisional cast ons are applied when the work is to be progressed in both directions from the cast on (it enables you to pick up stitches from the cast on edge and continue knitting).

Basically, however, there is no limit as to what materials can be used to knit with. Anything that can be viewed as a long fiber of something can be employed as a sort of yarn to knit with. Inventive people who like to knit have happily used string threaded with beads, plastic strips, rope, crepe paper, raffia, wire, and ribbon to fashion jewelry, bags, works of art, bowls and household items.

The knitted piece body may accommodate plain stitches or a certain amount of colored and textured patterns. It is periodically asserted that there are as many techniques of knitting as there are knitters, however most Western style knitters subscribe to either the Continental style or the English style. The amount of active stitches stays the same as when cast on unless stitches are added (an increase) or removed (a decrease) to shape the work.

Once the knitted piece is completed, the live stitches that remain are cast off. Casting off (aka binding off) loops the live stitches that remain across each other so they can be removed from the needle without unravelling the item. Even though the methods are different from casting on, there are a similar variety of methods and alternatives to be considered.

Usually, the finished knitted work will be made of a few knitted pieces, with individual sections of the garment knit separately and then joined together by sewing when all the pieces have been finished. Knitting without seams, where a complete project is knit as a single piece is also possible. Smaller items, such as mittens, socks, scarves, gloves and hats are ordinarily knit in one single piece on circular or double pointed needles.
